The Louvre Museum History and Architecture
Ancient fortress and royal palace turned universal museum, the Louvre is a place with multiple lives. During the tour, you will explore its incredible 800-years-old history, from the remains of the medieval castle to the modern glass pyramid — the last to date among the many marks left by generations of rulers and artists.
The tour will start with the exteriors of the museum. Vast courtyards, majestic perspectives and richly ornamented façades will serve us as visual media to briefly retrace the Louvre’s rich past. Inside, more stories will unfold as we stroll through famous and lesser-known galleries.
The Art of Ancient Near East, Grece and Rome
In the rooms surrounding the sublime Cour Khorsabad, you will discover a stunning collection of art coming from the Ancient Mesopotamia, often credited as the cradle of the civilization, and Ancient Persia. The tour will continue with Greek and Roman antiquities, including some of the Louvre’s rock stars: Venus de Milo, Nike (Winged Victory) of Samothrace, Diane of Versailles. Your guide will help you uncover connections between works of art from different times, crafting the exploration into a fluid and engaging story.
Italian and French Masters in the Louvre
On this Louvre tour, you will enjoy some of the ultimate works of European art under one roof: paintings by Leonardo (including, of course, the must-see Mona Lisa), Rafael, Veronese, Giotto, Botticelli, David, Géricault, Delacroix, sculptures by Michelangelo and Canova. Let yourself be transported by the power of these geniuses who shaped the history of art.
